The Quick and the Dead

Well, you've got to be quick around Vic to see one of our tags. Apparently, two at least were already gone by last night. Still, we have photos- here are just a few choice shots:

'Railing Cosy' by Cardigan Castle:

'CorsetTree' by AhGoodTheSea:

'Random Tag' by Knit Therapy:

And finally, 'The Line is Fuzzy' by AhGoodTheSea (I've been busy!)

We had a lot of fun putting the tags in place- for pictures of us busy at work, and more images of the various pieces in situ, visit our bucket o'photos.

Work on new pieces has already begun, watch this space!

Letters of introduction

Greetings, craft-curious one!

What you're doing here is up to you. If you've come here via the little labels on our knitted graffiti pieces, then welcome! We hope finding our tags made your day a little happier. We'd love to hear your reaction, questions, or ideas for other places to add some fun, friendly colour.

What we're doing here- well, that's the question. What we aim to achieve with our yarn bombing in and around Wellington is an ongoing public art project.
Our manifesto is simple:
We want to make you stop and look at something again that you would otherwise have ignored.
We want to make you smile.
We want to have some serious fun with our crafting, and share it with a whole lot of people.

For those of you unsure whether or not you approve of what we're doing, consider this: our tags do not damage the things they are sewn around. Removing them takes only a pair of scissors, not scrubbing with nasty chemicals or a load of effort with paint. We are doing what we're doing to spread some joy, not to rebel. While we believe that graffiti can be art, the graffiti we see most frequently around Wellington only makes something dowdy into something downright ugly. Ours does the opposite.

We recently completed our maiden tagging run around the Victoria University campus. Photos will appear here soon.

If you'd like to join us, send an e-mail to the address on the side-bar of this blog. We're polycraftual, and welcome folks who want to create tags, of all levels (including no) ability, folks who want to help us sew things in place, or folks who want to donate yarn and needles to the group. We're glad of anyone who wants to make a positive contribution.
